About Benjamin Dane

Biography

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Dean-717

Benjamin Dane was married to Sarah Coleburn in Concord, Massachusetts, on 11 June 1707. Both were "of Concord" at the time of the marriage.[1]

Benjamin Dean's daughter Elizabeth was born on 2 September 1708.[2]

In 1737 the town of Bedford, Massachusetts, made a determination that Benjamin Dean was "non compos" and petitioned the judge of probate to appoint a guardian, recommending William Marshall of Billerica and Samuel Fitch of Bedford. The appointment was made as requested. [Source: Middlesex County Probate, First Series, Docket 6116.] William Marshall's relationship to Benjamin Dean as the husband on Benjamin's daughter was clarified in a deed dated 9 December 1756, in which William Marshall of Concord, housewright, sold 24 acres of land at Bedford that belonged to Benjamin Dean "in the capacity of a guardian for my father-in-law, Benjamin Dean." [Source: Middlesex County Deeds 56:185] Benjamin Dean could not have been the stepfather of William Marshall, so the reference to him as father-in-law must have been a reference to William's wife's father. (Samuel Fitch was the second husband of William Marshall's mother Eunice, married before 9 May 1720, so William Marshall's mother was married to Samuel Fitch, not Benjamin Dean.)[3]

Benjamin Dean died at Bedford, Massachusetts, on 22 March 1767.[4]
