About Benjamin Franklin Russell
Benjamin's mother died during the Civil War, when he was only 5 years old. His father died of malaria in 1868 after surviving the Civil War conflict. Ben was 9 years old at the time of his father's death. After the death of his parents Benjamin and his brothers lived with their married sisters and other relatvies until they were old enough to be on their own. Most of this time was spent in Winn Parish and West Catahoula Parish. After his marriage to Martha Ann, they lived for a short time in the Little Chickasaw community, moved to Texas for two years and moved back to the Little Chickasaw community in West Catahoula Parish (Now LaSalle Parish) The information on Benjamin was obtained from the "History of LaSalle Parish and its families" Vol 1 ISBN 0-88107-141-2 Copyright Curtis Media Corporation 1989, in Dallas Texas.
