About Benjamin Handley
Major, MP for Boston. Unmarried
Educated at Mr Hall;s School, Grantham; then Trinity College, Cambridge. Joined the army in 1805, becoming a Captain in the 9th Lancers, serving in South America and the Peninsular. He transferred to 53rd of Foot (Shropshire Regiment) with rank of Major in 1816, placed on half pay and entered the Reserve, retiring in 1826. In 1831 he was resident at Pointon House, Lincs, and in 1832 was returned as MP for Boston.
