DIES FROM INJURIES
Benjamin Franklin Hughes Fails to Survive
Electric Shock Sustained a Week Ago.
Benjamin Franklin Hughes, fifty-three years old, who sustained a severe electric shock at the barns of the Richmond and Chesapeake Bay Line about a week ago, died from the effects of his injuries at Grace Hospital early yesterday. Surgeons at the hospital amputated his left arm and leg in an effort to save his life, but blood-poisoning had developed and their efforts were in vain.
Hughes was employed as a repair man and was working on a car at the time he received the shock. He thought the current had been turned off the car and switched over the control. He was knocked down, but was rescued a few minutes later by fellow workmen.
The funeral will be conducted from the house, 919 Perry Street, this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Burial will be in Maury Cemetery. Hughes is survived by his wife and five children.
