served in Revolutionary War as a private. Entered service in Northhampton Co, PA and served under General Woodford and John Oakley, Quartermaster. Delivered papers for General Woodford, served as cannon soldier, stood guard for 8 months for General Woodford near Germantown. After discharge, he moved to Rowan Co, NC and rejoined for 6 months and served under General Chapman and James Beaty Orderly Sergeant. Joined another 6 months under General Rutherford, Col Lopp, Major Frederick Smith, Capt Peter Hendrick, and Lt Wagle. Ran Tories out of Deep River. Went with General Rutherford and Capt Hendrick to SC, there the war ended.
