Benjamin Sharp was a man of some prominence in Pomfret and a man of considerable property as is shown by his will and the inventory of his estate He made his will 9 May 1780 proved 2 May 1782 He appointed his wife Mary sole executrix and bequeathed to her the use and improvement of one half of his farm whereon he lived with one half of all the buildings thereon so long as she remained his widow Also bequeathed to her all the lands he bought of her brother Benj Craft lying near the meeting house in Abington Parish to her own use benefit and disposal forever also 200 reckoning silver money at Cs 8d per ounce also one horse two cows and six sheep with all the indoor movables and one half the farming tools to her own use He bequeathed unto Benjamin Dorr of Pomfret the use of one half the farm and buildings thereon but if his widow marry again said Dorr was to come into possession of the whole He then bequeathed to his sister Martha Stone 10 and to the heirs of his brother John Sharp 55 in equal parts and a like sum to the heirs of his brother Soloman Sharp also to those of his brother Isaac Sharp also to those of his brother Gershom Sharp also to those of his sister Elizabeth Griggs The inventory of his estate taken 25 Nov 1782 amounted to 1040 8s M An account of settlement rendered later by his widow then Mary Griggs gives the following heirs Ephraim Ingalls Lydia Benj Aaron and Sarah Sharp Solo man and Hannah Cleveland William Sharp John and Esther Robertson Dorcas and Moses Grosvenor David Sharp and the Windham Selectmen for Willard Dean The Pomfret records show that Benjamin Dorr the principal legatee sold to Samuel Craft and wife Lucy of Pomfret Apr 6 1786 for 300 a certain farm of fifty acres house and barn in Pomfret which is the whole of the land I had by the last will and testament of Benj Sharp deceased.
