About Benjamin Smith
Settled on land given to him by his father, Francis Smith, during his lifetime. Francis held a quarter part of it as land inherited from his father Richard in Sunkapaug. A portion of land in Voluntown Conn. granted by soldiers in King Phillips War, as a volunteer in that service. His occupation, a husbandman. In religion, a Congregationalist. Date of death unknown but before Oct 6 1765 according to a deed of his son Sylvanus Smith to Joseph Smith. "…all the sons and daughters of Benjamin and Sarah Smith became possessed of good estates and were esteemed and respectable members of society and professors of religion.” Dr. John Lay Smith’s papers.
