Benjamin Spooner

In the Revolutionary War, Benjamin was Sergeant of the CO of Captain Amos Washburn in the Regiment of Col Ebenezer Sprout, He was a man of small stature, quick, active and a great walker, on one occassion it is said, he walked from Dartmouth to Oakham, 90 miles in 2 consecutive days, with apparent ease. Marched to Rhode Island after the capture of Newport. Sworn in at Middleboro.

A Grandson writes, "My Grandfather was a Congregationalist, a quiet man,serious, and a constant attendant at meetings, He was a strict observer of the Sabbath, which with him, commenced at the going down of the sun on Saturday and no labor, not even the cleaning of the cattle stalls after turning them out in the morning, nothing was allowed to be done until after sunset, Sunday".

Benjamin married Lois Negus and had 5 children. He passed away on 11 Mar 1820 in Oakham, Worcester, Massachusetts, USA.
