Wife of Sidney Woolf, MP
Sydney Woolf was educated at one of the University Colleges in Frankfurt8. In 1860 he married Benvenula Isabella Nunes Carvalho, daughter of the late David Nunes Carvalho and Sarah Cohen D’Azevedo of London. Sydney and Isabella went on to have thirteen children.
Sydney and his new wife went to live in Knottingley at Ferrybridge House. While Lewis and Esther continued living at Thornbury Park. Lewis and Sydney were large employers of labour in Knottingley with over 2000 workers in their factories.
Sydney was esteemed and popular in consequence of his charity and the interest he displayed in local matters, in which he was one of the guiding spirits.
