Bernard Gaberman

Russian-born Jewish businessman Bernard Gaberman came to the Philippines via Shanghai. He became a naturalized Filipino in the late 1940's. As a close friend of President Magsaysay, he served as a "dollar-a-year man" for the President, helping run the Huk Resettlement Program in Mindanao. He, along with Miguel Campos, Aristeo Lat, Eduardo Ortigas and Hermenegildo B. Reyes, founded the Makati Stock Exchange on 27 May 1963. This is one of the forerunners of the modern-day Philippine Stock Exchange.
