RICHLER, Bertha Pencer January 6, 1926 - November 21, 2012 Bertha Pencer Richler passed away at the age of 86 in Calgary, surrounded by loved ones on November 21, 2012. She is the beloved mother and mother-in-law of Gail and Mark Stolovitsky of Dallas, Debbie and Nelson Halpern of Calgary and the late Sandra Richler. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Alex (Erin) Halpern, Lisa Halpern, Joanna Halpern, Tova Stolovitsky, and Yaakov Stolovitsky. Bertha is also survived by her loving sisters and brothers-in-law, Mona and Arnold Steinberg of Montreal, Shirley Pencer and Wilfred Probst of Montreal and Wylma and Irwin Freedman of Calgary, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Myer and Diane Richler of Montreal and sister-in-law Ruth Richler of Toronto. She was predeceased by her parents, Alice and John J. Pencer, her brother Seymour Pencer, and husband of forty years, Bernard Richler. She will be missed by her nieces and nephews. For the past six years, Bertha was cared for with great love and respect by Victoria David who is now like a member of our family. Many thanks also to Lucille Tallon and Marivic Ramirez for their care. Bertha was born in Montreal on January 6, 1926 and resided there until 1991, when she moved to Calgary to be with her daughters and grandchildren. She had a great love of learning and proudly received a BA from Concordia University in 1977. She had a kind and giving heart, always wanting to help others. Funeral Services were held at Paperman and Sons, Montreal on Sunday, November 25, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Shiva was observed in Montreal on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday until 2:00 p.m. and will continue in Calgary on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the home of Debbie and Nelson Halpern.
