

He studied in Vienna at the Tehcnical University to become an engineer. Lots of Jews studied there. One quarter of 200 plus students in 1899 were Jewish according to reference in the Tech Uni archives I saw in 2011. Die K u K Techn Hochschule in Wien 1815-1915 Published by the Tech Uni 1915. Page 645 has a table showing religions of students. 1899 there were 588 Jews out of 2077 students. Berthold had to pay 25 krone for each of two semesters. He did his second exam in 1902 after finishing his studies as he wanted to be eligible to work in the public service. He first lived in Wipplingerstr. 20 in 1897 [in first district] and later moved to Grosse Neugasse in fourth district and then Schloesselgasse in 8th and Laschaufelder Str in 7th later. He paid full fees- his family could afford it. Later fees went up to 50 krone. He was exempted from military service because of his studies and the records also show he was deemed unfit but no reason given. He studied organic and inorganic chemistry, maths, zoology, mineralogy, mechanics and in a laboratory.

Bedrich worked in Ostrava and Olomouc for the Austrian railways. Earlier in his career he worked in Frydek Mistek in Silesia.
