Bertie Ollie Thacker

Mrs. Bertie Ollie Thacker, 74, widow of John Luther Thacker, and a well known and beloved resident of the Clover Hill-Ottobine communities for a number of years who had been residing in Harrisonburg for the past three years, died at nine o'clock Friday morning at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital. Mrs. Thacker suffered a fall at her home 375 Hill Street on November 11th of last year. She had been a patient in the hospital since February of this year. A daughter of the late William Sponaugle and Sallie Dinkle Sponaugle, she was born on Jan. 28, 1882 in Doddridge County, W. Va. She moved to the Ottobine-Clover Hill community in early life. In Dec. 1898 she married John Luther Thacker. Mr. Thacker, a prominent Rockingham county farmer and resident preceded her in death on March 10, 1937. She is survived by three children, Delbert R. Thacker, of Park View; Mrs. O. S. (Charlotte) Sanger, of Harrisonburg; and Earl Thacker, of Harrisonburg and five grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Mrs. Willie E. Garber, of Harrisonburg. A son, Clarence, one sister, Mrs. Florence Murray, and three brothers, Arthur, Luther, and Charles Sponaugle preceded her in death. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at two o’clock from the Clover Hill Methodist Church. Obituary abstract from Harrisonburg VA Daily News-Record, Saturday, Oct. 13, 1956.
