Brief overview:

Bert (41), a farmer from Toitskraal farm, Marble Hall, Limpopo was tortured and seriously wounded on 13th March 1998. Five armed perpetrators gained entry to the farm in the early hours of the morning. Bert, who was wounded under his right ear, in the right shoulder, while a bullet that hit him in the chest penetrated a lung, died two weeks later in hospital on 29th March.

His wife, Pieta (Peta), was assaulted and kicked, and his 12-year old son, Nielson, was pistol whipped across the head.
