Bertus "Bert" Steenberg (1951 - 2021)
Brief overview:
Bert (70), a farmer from Farm Leeufontein near Kendal was found tortured and murdered on Monday 7th March 2021. Bert was found with his hand and feet bound with rope, and tied to the vehicle. He had been strangled with a piece of the rope with which he was tied, as well as his own shirt. He was also assaulted and sustained multiple wounds to his head and face. It is suspected that he was murdered between Thursday and Sunday the week prior to his body being found.
As Bert lived alone, his family became concerned when they couldn't reach him on his mobile phone.
According to Police spokesperson Brig. Leonard Hlathi, the house was ransacked, but there were no signs of a burglary. His white Toyota bakkie and two cellphones are missing.
Bert was in the process of selling his farm.
No one has been arrested yet.
