About Betsy Jones
Biography
It would seem that Betsy Johnson was born about mid-1845 as she was baptized at St Mary's Anglican Church in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand on 2nd November 1845.
Twenty years later Betsy married Matthew Jenkins Jones on 24th October 1865 at the Henui Anglican Church in New Plymouth. [1] The couple had three children, two boys and a girl.
Betsy died of tuberculosis [TB] on 17th May 1876 at the age of 30. [2] [3] Although her two young boys were then aged 9 and 6, their younger sister had died as a three-year-old about 12 months earlier so Mary was buried with her daughter. [4]
