About Betsy Lipshitz
Betsy was the eldest of six children and in early Johannesburg was considered beautiful When her stern victorian father refused her permission to marry the man she had fallen in love with, she became 'melancholic'. She was married in an arranged mariiage and had four children. She was unable to take care of them and Issie and Louis were sent to the Jewish Orphanage.Sam was old enough and left home. He died in Capetown of peritonitis on Octber 10 1943. Jane was sent to a foster home.
