About Betty J Dummer

Visitation for Betty J. Dummer, 66, of Bonfield, will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Clancy-Gernon-Hertz Funeral Home, west Kankakee, and from 10 a.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church, Bonfield, until the 11 a.m. funeral services. Pastor John Kiefer will officiate.

Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bonfield. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or to the choir at Zion Lutheran Church. She died Monday (May 2, 2011) at Riverside Medical Center in Kankakee.

Mrs. Dummer started working in 1962 at the Roper Corp. and then became a homemaker. She helped farm with her husband for many years. She then worked at First Trust Bank which became First of America and then National City. She was one of the original employees with First Trust Bank when opening in 1998 and was an assistant to Walter Charlton. She worked in loan operations, retiring in 2008. She was born May 4, 1944, in Herscher, the daughter of Arthur and Edith Peters Rahn. She played the piano and organ at Zion Lutheran Church, both in Herscher and Bonfield, sang in the choirs, and was the choir director at Zion Lutheran Church in Bonfield. She enjoyed trips to Branson, Mo., scrapbooking, planting flowers and spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She loved music.

Surviving are her husband, Delbert Dummer, of Bonfield, whom she married Nov. 14, 1964, at Zion Lutheran Church in Chebanse; four sons and one daughter-in-law, Scott Dummer, of Bonfield, Randy Dummer, of Kankakee, Dan and Amanda Dummer, of Janesville, Wis., and John Dummer, of Geneseo; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; one sister, Lucille Jarka, of Bradley; one brother, Marvin Rahn, of Danforth; many nieces and nephews; and special friend, Lori Whitwell, of Herscher.
