Betty Joan Shepler, 81, of Anderson, passed away Feb. 26, 2010, at Saint John's Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was born Feb. 20, 1929, in Frankfort and had lived in Anderson since 1960.
She had been employed as a cook for the Jackson Township Schools and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the AMVETS Auxiliary Post 9. She enjoyed all outdoor activities, especially bird watching. However, her real passion was her family, all family activities and her relationship with God.
She is survived by four children, William "Bill" (wife, Sylvia) Shepler of Noblesville, Vickie (husband, Russell) Hiatt of Anderson, Lester "Spike" (wife, Lori) Shepler Jr. of Noblesville, and Sharel (husband, Ralph) Marcum of Anderson; 15 grandchildren, Stephanie (husband, Kevin) Harren of Texas, Nicole (husband, Kirk) Gallier of South Carolina, Rebekah (husband, Kevin) Cooper of Ohio, Alicyn (husband, Chad) Arnold of Noblesville, Missy Jones and Rusty Hiatt, both of Anderson, Dustin Shepler of Indianapolis, Brittany Shepler, Kiara Shepler, Ruby Shepler, Karleigh Shepler and Ahniér Shepler, all of Noblesville, Mandy (husband, Shane) Martin of Anderson, Patty (husband, Mark) Hahn of Elwood and Anise "Loudnie" Marcum of Anderson; 16 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jackie (husband, Jim) Pittser of Anderson; and a brother-in-law, Dwayne "Red" Heiney of Anderson.
Betty Joan was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Shepler, in April 1998; and two sisters, Barbara Heiney and an infant sister, Patty Ann Jones.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Brown-Butz-Diedring Funeral Home, 515 E. 53rd St., Anderson, with the Rev. Patrick Rivest officiating. Burial will take place at Anderson Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
