About Beulah Mae Weigel
The oldest child of George Weishaupt and Mabel Geeding, Beulah received an eighth grade education and then stayed home with her mother to help take care of the house.
Beulah met William Weigel of Grafton at a Calhoun County dance when she was 16-years-old. She married Bill in 1933, and they were the parents of 2 children.
The Weigels bought a dilapidated filling station in Granite City, Madison County, Illinois in 1942. They remodeled it and ran a successful business known as Weigel Texaco Service Station for 20 years.
After selling the gas station in Granite City, they moved to Brussels and opened a Phillips 66. They operated the business for 10 years until the town was flooded in 1973. They then sold the Phillips 66 gas station and moved to Godfrey, Madison County, Illinois.
Beulah died at Greenwood Manor in Jerseyville from complications of Alzheimer's disease. At the time of her death, she was 89 years, 9 months and 22 days old. She was survived by 1 son; 1 daughter; 2 granddaughters; 6 great-grandchildren; and 1 step-great-grandchild.
Funeral services were held at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels on 30 Jan 2003. She was buried next to her husband, Bill, who passed away in 1978.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Alzheimer's Association; St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels; or Faith Lutheran Church in Godfrey.
