Billy E. Carter Battle Creek Billy Edgar Carter, 84, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 21, 2009 at the Battle Creek VA Medical Hospice Center. He was born October 23, 1924 in Benton, IL the son of Alpha and Elizabeth M. (Mandrell) Carter. Billy attended Benton Twp. High School and then served in the US Army during WWII from 1943 to 1946, reenlisted from Jan. 1946 to April 1947; where he received a Victory Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon and four Overseas Service Bars. He was employed at the Kellogg Company for 36 years, until retiring in 1985. Billy is survived by wife of 63 years: Edna J. Carter of Battle Creek; daughter: Donna Walters of Battle Creek; 2 granddaughters: Kristen & Robert Armstrong of Galesburg, MI; Suanne & Jeff Muniz of Hampton, VA; one grandson: Michael & Penny Walters of Battle Creek; and six great grandchildren: James Salter, Brianne Muniz, Kianne Muniz, Kaitlyn & Noah & Matthew Armstrong; and one great-great granddaughter: Clara Tidden. He was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter: Kathy Clemens; and six brothers: Ira Carter, Carl Carter, Alpha Carter, Harry Carter, Dean Carter, and Harold Carter; and 2 sisters: Katie Brown and Grace Suspancic. Billy was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, was a greeter and served on the Board of Trustees. He was member of the Kellogg 25 Year Club and former member of Grain Millers Local Union. He enjoyed traveling several times to Florida, four times to Hawaii; and had also traveled with his wife to Canada and California. He enjoyed watching television, taking his "car apart and hoping the Garage could fix it". He would faithfully read Reader's Digest, enjoyed being with his family, friends, and especially his great-grandchildren and taking pictures with his movie camera. He also had a great sense of humor. Visitation will be Thursday (August 27, 2009) after 9 AM at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service where the family will be present from 2-4 PM and 6-8PM, funeral services commemorating the life of Billy Carter will be held Friday 10:00 AM in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carolyn Robinson-Fisher of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military honors will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or VA Palliative Care Unit.
