About Blanche Joan Altemus

Blanche Strebeigh lived almost 93 years. During that period she was married three times - to Julian R. Sloan in 1926; to Thomas M. Carnegie in 1932; and to James D. Altemus in 1948. As is common practice, she outlived all of them. She had two children - Julian Sloan from the first marriage and Andrew Carnegie from the second marriage. Mrs. Altemus spent the first half of her life up north in the New York area, wintering in the Big Apple and summering in Southampton and Newport, occasionally during her first marriage. In 1956 she and James Altemus moved to Jupiter Island and a year later to Palm Beach in Florida. She was survived by her two sons, 6 grandchildren and one great grandson. One son, Andrew Carnegie, has died since her death.
