During the summer of 1851, Blewford and Almira Stringer and their children who ranged from six to seventeen years of age, and Blewford's sister Elizabeth Stringer Coyle, widow of John Patrick Coyle, and her seven children, left Peoria Co., Illinois. They traveled by prairie schooners and ox teams and arrived in Oregon in the Lebanon-Scio area in October 1851.
