About Bob Collins
As a teen, he was (according to his wife) easily the tallest man in town. He did not attend college - the stock market crash and the Great Depression got in the way, but he was smart, and not without ambition. Some time in 1926 or 1927, he and a friend set up a shop making crystal radios and selling them. One day, while minding the store (which was located on West Main Street in Barnesville, Ohio, just West of where the Catholic church is now (2017), he saw a very pretty blonde girl walk past. He remarked to his friend "That's the girl I'm going to marry." (exact quote, as told by him.) In 1929, they eloped by driving to West Virginia to be married by a Justice of the Peace
