About Brevet Maj. William Lange Boyd (USA)
William Boyd was commissioned an officer in Company F, Maine 1st Cavalry Regiment on 05 Oct 1861. Promoted to Full 1st Lieutenant. Promoted to Full Adjutant on 15 Jul 1864. Promoted to Full Captain on 25 Mar 1865. Mustered out on 01 Aug 1865 at Petersburg, VA. Promoted to Full Adjutant on 15 Jun 1865. By the end of the war he had gained the rank of Brevet Major. His horse was shot out from under him at the Battle of Gettysburg. He also fought in the second Battle of Bull Run and the Battle of Antietam.
