Brief overview:
Brian (70), a retired Milnerton, Cape Town, traffic officer who was beaten to death during a hijacking probably died because of brain swelling, or because he choked on his own blood after his nose was smashed. This was the verdict of a pathologist who submitted a report into the death of a Brian George Bland. She also said he could have suffocated after blood ran into his trachea when his nasal bones were broken in the attack. Bland's body was found dumped near the Portuguese Club in Rugby on January 3, 2004. Bland's nasal bones were fractured.

- Justin Shane Norton (21), of Tygerhof, brothers Arthur (22), and Wesley Lancaster (20), and Morné Moosa Snyman (29), all of Milnerton, have pleaded not guilty to murder, kidnapping and robbery. Snyman's brother Bryan (19), was also arrested but has turned State witness.
