About Bridget Cusack

GEDCOM Note

Bridget was baptised on 16 April 1882 by Rev. Fr. Gerard Doyle. Her sponsors were her uncle and aunt, William McCrickard and Catherine Cusack.

On 30 Dec 1882, Bridget's mother Helena, took her to be immunised at Warrenheip by Dr. Richard Bruce of Ballarat. She informed the registrar that Bridget was three months old and that they lived at Leigh Creek. Attending with Helena and Bridget was her sister-in-law, Catherine (Cusack) McCrickard with her 10 month old daughter Catherine Anne. The two women were the first of the long list to have their babies immunised that day.

Bridget obviously knew Robert Black at Ballarat before he left to go mining in West Australia in 1896 at the age of 17 years. It seems she kept in touch with Robert for the next few years and eventually travelled to the other side of the country where in 1903 she married Robert at Boulder W.A. She returned to Bungaree for the birth of their first child, James, and then journeyed back to Boulder, where James unfortunately died at the age of 10 months. She returned to her family at Bungaree in 1908 for the birth of their third child, Mary.

Bridget and Robert made their home at several locations in Boulder over the next 15 years or so. In 1910 they were at Waterloo Street, Boulder and the 1916 West Australia Electrol Rolls show that Bridget Black, resided at 2365 Launceston Street, Boulder.

Some time after 1916 the Black family returned to Victoria where by 1919, Bridget was caring for the family home at 15 Bank Street, Ascot Vale while Robert was employed as a school cleaner.

They remained at this address until Bridget died in 1934.
