Brig. Gen. William W. Robinson, Jr. was born to William W. Robinson Sr, and Sarah Fisk Robinson April 2, 1846, he died March 24, 1917 in Washington, D.C.
He was mustered in to Co E., 7th Wi Vol Inf. on March 17 and mustered out on July 3, 1865. He had been accepted to West Point in July of 1864, but was deferred until 1865.
He spent his early career in the 2nd and 7th Cavalry in Arizona and Kansas, he was assigned to the 7th Cavalry at Fort Riley, KS in 1889 and spent time in the Dakota Territories.
Lieutenant William Wallace Robinson, Jr., forty-four years of age at Wounded Knee, was assigned to Captain Godfrey’s D Troop, 7th Cavalry, and was serving as Acting Adjutant of 2nd Battalion that day. He commanded K Troop following the battle at White Clay Creek as a result of the loss of Captain Wallace and Lieutenant Mann.
Later he tranferred to the Quartermaster Corps and was assigned to oversee the building of Fort Lawton in Seattle, WA in 1896.
He wanted a command during the Spanish-American War, but was deemed to valuable as a quartermaster. His son Edward follwed him at West Point and served in the Cavalry during the war. Edward died in 1912 from a burst appendix at Ft. Bliss, TX. Edward is buried at the Ft. Lwton Cemetery along with his grandfather William
He rose to the rank of Assistant Quartermaster General and is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
