Bryant "Rip" Elmer Winston, age 92, of the Illinois Veterans Home, formerly of 4501 Gardner Expressway in Quincy and Hiawatha, Iowa, died on March 4, 2009 at 2:20 p.m. in the Home. He was born on February 5, 1917 in Bluff Hall, Illinois. He was a son of William A. and Rose May (Wilson) Winston. He married Marie Setters on December 23, 1946 in Palmyra, Missouri. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2004. He was a World War II navy veteran from 1942-1945. Bryant worked for Celotex as a fork lift operator before his retirement in 1979. He was of the Catholic faith. Bryant was a member of Moose Lodge #304 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He loved to camp. He also enjoyed visiting with family and friends. Survivors include: TWO CHILDREN: Betty Herb and her husband Donald of Haiwatha, IA, and William Winston of Loraine, IL; THREE GRANDCHILDREN; SEVEN GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a brother James A. Winston, step-brothers LeRoy and T. D. Wilson, and a step-sister Mary Smith. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 9, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. in All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veterans Home by Father Don Blickhan. Interment will be in Sunset Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. at All Faiths Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Illinois Veterans Home Markward I. The Duker & Haugh Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Mr Winston was born on February 5, 1917 in Bluff Hall, Illinois, the son of William A. and Rose May (Wilson) Winston. On December 23, 1946 in Palmyra, Missouri, Rip married Marie Setters; she preceded him in death October 2, 2004.
