About Bryer Rose Greenwood

Killed by mother Toni Maree Ericksen. Bryer died in Starship Hospital from traumatic brain injuries caused by a two-vehicle crash on Kaipara Coast Highway, just north of Helensville, Auckland. Her mother Toni was both prohibited from driving and driving under the influence of methamphetamine when she caused the crash that killed her daughter and injured a heavily pregnant woman in another car. Bryer's younger sister Gemma was also hurt in the crash. Toni was aggressive and abused police and ambulance officers trying to treat her children at the scene. Three of the four tyres on her car were later found to be unsafe. Source: https://debbiemccauleyauthor.wordpress.com/biographies/new-zealand-....

Meth mum admits daughter's crash death: A West Auckland mother has admitted driving under the influence of methamphetamine and causing a crash that killed her daughter. Toni Ericksen, 33, was due to stand trial in the Auckland District Court on Monday on four charges including driving under the influence of drugs and being while prohibited, but last week entered a guilty plea. Her daughter Bryer Greenwood, 12, was killed when the car Ericksen was driving crashed in Kaipara on July 9 last year. Her younger daughter Gemma was also injured, along with the heavily pregnant driver of another vehicle. Ericksen, who was an unlicensed driver, and her two daughters were heading home from a netball game when the car they were in collided with another vehicle on the Kaipara Coast Highway, 2km north of Helensville. All three had to be cut from the wreckage of their car, which was "T-boned" by an oncoming 4WD, emergency services said at the time. At her funeral in July, Greenwood was described as an intelligent, beautiful and vivacious girl. Family said the Kaukapakapa schoolgirl had her whole life planned out. She wanted to go to Orewa College and then on to the University of Otago where she wanted to become a professor in archaeology. She and a friend had planned to visit Machu Picchu in Peru and other areas throughout the world. Source: http://www.stuff.co.nz/auckland/local-news/7569767/Meth-mum-admits-...

Ericksen was driving the girls home to Kaukapakapa after Gemma's Saturday morning netball game when the crash happened. Ericksen did not speak at her daughter's funeral, but sat in the front row with Gemma, who had stitches in a cut to her face and her arm bandaged heavily. After the service, Ericksen cried and looked shocked and drained as she hugged Bryer's friends outside. Bryer's father, Ken Greenwood, Ericksen's ex-husband, would not comment yesterday. But after her funeral, he told the Weekend Herald that Bryer "rocked the world". "She was beautiful, she was smart. And she loved her daddy. I buried my brother three months ago and she was there for me. She held my hand, she looked after me. My girl was gorgeous." Mr Greenwood said he was incredibly proud of Bryer, who was an "immensely beautiful person". "She knew where she was going and she knew how she was going to get it ... The gap this little girl has left cannot be filled." Bryer attended Kaukapakapa School and was described by principal Tony Westrupp as "an excellent student" who demonstrated a "maturity well above her years". "She had a vibrant personality," he said. "Bryer was gifted, artistic, passionate about life. She was an inspiration to all around her. She was loved by everyone. She was the best role model we could wish for." Her best friend described her as "extraordinary" and told mourners how they had planned to travel to Egypt and South America together. She said Bryer dreamed of becoming an archaeologist, travelling and having four children - and she already had their names picked out.
