Stanley - Saturday funeral services have been set for Carl A Mahoney, 93, who died Sunday, Feb 19, at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Washington, DC. Mr Mahoney, a former Stanley resident, had been in the US Airman and Soldier's Home in Washington, DC the past 3 years. Services will be Feb 25 at 1:30 pm at the Brant-Kerns-Jamison Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev Paul McManus officiating. Burial will be in the Stanley Cemetery with military graveside rites. Masonic services will be held at 8 pm Friday at the funeral home. Mr Mahoney was a member of Masonic Waterfall Lodge 511 AF and AM of Hazleton for over 50 years. Survivors include his wife, Lydia, of Oelwein; a son and daughter-in-law, Clare and Roberta Mahoney, Oelwein; a granddaughter, Meera; 2 sisters, Mrs Helen Cunningham, Waterloo, and Mrs Mary Jane Ugland, Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers and 4 sisters. Mr Mahoney had been a rural mail carrier in the Stanley area for over 35 years and a member of the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He served as mayor of Stanley for 8 years. His father, Daniel, was the first mayor of Stanley. Mr Mahoney was an Army veteran of World War I, a past commander of the WW I Veterans group in Oelwein and Hazleton American Legion, Friar-Watson Post 642, of which he was a 50-year member. He was a member of the Moose lodge in Cedar Rapids for over 50 years.
