On Mar 4, 1862, James R. Coggins enlisted in Company G, 39th Regiment, Georgia Volunteer Infantry, CSA. (No further info re his Civil War service.) James R. Coggins appears to have died before 1870 in Gilmer Co, GA.

1870 census, Gilmer Co, GA - HH #27 Coggins, Rebecca, age 30, b GA Coggins, Verady A., age 10, b GA Coggins, Jane, age 8, b GA Coggins, Jesse (male), age 6, b GA Note that the 1870 census for Gilmer Co was poorly conducted; names & ages are not consistent with either the 1860 or 1880 census. Numerous families were missed entirely. By 1870, parents & siblings of James R. Coggins had moved to Cobb Co, GA.
