LORING, William Caleb Of North Andover, MA, a resident of the Edgewood Retirement community, formerly of Beverly Farms MA, died after a lengthy illness on February10, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Agnes (Waller) of North Andover, MA; by his son, William C. Loring Jr. of Beverly Farms, MA; his daughter, Anne L Bordash of Jackson New Hampshire, his son, Timothy G. Loring of Beverly Farms, MA; his sisters, Mary L. Clapp of Bedford MA., Jane L. Straight of Norwich VT. and five grandchildren. He was the son of the late Augustus Peabody Loring and Rosamond (Bowditch) Loring of Boston and Prides Crossing.

Bill Loring was born in his family's house in Pride's Crossing. He lived in Boston's Back Bay, spending summers on the North Shore and sailing with his family along the coast of Maine. He attended Dexter School and then Groton School. He excelled in football, hockey and skiing. In 1943 he was drafted for service before starting his last year at Groton School. Honorably discharged from the Coast Guard in late 1945, he would marry his devoted wife, (Agnes Waller), of 64 years, and enter Harvard College from which he graduated in June of 1950. He enlisted in the Naval Reserves and was called to serve in the Korean Conflict. For a second time he was honorably discharged from the Armed Services whereupon he embarked upon his career as a trustee.

He fervently believed in public service and ran for Alderman of the City of Beverly, MA. and became chairman of its Finance Committee. His professional career as trustee started in the early 1950's and continued through the early 1980's. After retirement, he continued as a private trustee until the onset of his final illness six years ago. He worked at the State Street Bank and Trust Company, the law firm of Choate Hall and Stewart and finally at the Naumkeag Trust Company in Salem and in Newburyport. Towards the end of his professional career and into his retirement, he became involved with a number of organizations that asked him to serve on their boards. Among them were the Salem Athenaeum, The Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati, The Ellis Memorial & Eldredge House, The House of Seven Gables, The National Heritage Museum in Lexington and Proctor Academy.

He was a distinguished 33rd degree Freemason, a member of Lodges in Boston and Manchester Massachusetts. He served as Deputy Grandmaster of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts. He was never happier than when he was skiing or cruising along the coast of Maine with his wife on their sailboat, Samar. They visited family and friends along the way and enjoyed every minute on the water.

A memorial Service will be held on March 24th at 2:00 PM at St. John's Episcopal Church 702 Hale St., Beverly Farms, MA Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Friends of The Jackson Public Library, PO Box 276, Jackson, NH 03846 or to the Essex County Greenbelt Association, 82 Eastern Avenue, Essex, MA 01929.
