His parents were Samuel and Eleanor Garrison Morgan. He married Matilda McClure 1 May 1834 in Benton Co, AL. They had eight known children: Samuel McClure who married Edith Compton, Ann Compton, Amanda Francis Johnston, and Sallie Gray Orr; Thomas Josiah who married Elizabeth Martin; James Crow (died young); Julia Anna who married Daniel Smith Black; Amanda Josephine who married John Terhune; Caleb John; Clark who married Josephine Martin; and Alfred M. who married Malissa C. Patterson.

After Matilda's death in 1864, he married Mary Caroline Johnston 3 Dec 1871 in Calhoun Co, AL.

He served in Co. I, 19th Alabama Infantry Reg. Discharged in Sept 1863 because he was seriously wounded. Moved to Texas in 1872. He was the son of Richard Ross & Nancy H. Morgan Boles
