About Caleb Smith

Biography

This is a work in progress, ie I haven't given up yet. The facts in his sworn statement for pension could not be backed up and his widow was denied pension. HOWEVER hardly any of the Militia records in Vermont in 1775 were recorded. Them Bonehead Green Mountain Boys and Benedict Arnold seized Fort Ticonderoga way before the REAL Revolution ever got started.

Since there are no Vermont records which wouldn't become a State for 16 years. There are some accounts from Ethan Allen and others to the Continental Congress in the Congressional Records which mentions participants.

Seems Congress wanted a listing of everything taken, and who was there, in case they had to return it, and the men who did it who might be punished. Hostilities had yet to break out, and they didn't want Ticonderoga to start a war.
