About Callaghan McCarthy
The name "Cal (or Callaghan) on the hill", or "Grandfather on the hill" (Nida) occurs in my notes a few times. Pip mentioned an "Old Cal".
This Cal McCarthy may have written a family history or some history of the McCarthys/McCarthy name.
According to Pip McCarthy, Callaghan McCarthy was wealthy and had 2 farms.
But Pip referred to Callaghan McCarthy as his great grandfather. He said that one of the farms was left to Pip's grandfather. Could it be that Cal's father was *also* Callaghan and that Pip was correct in calling Callaghan McCarthy his great-grandfather?
This would also allow the possibility of this Cal being of interest:
A Callaghan McCarthy is mentioned on this page, but the record is from 1831 - a little too early! For follow-up? http://www.failteromhat.com/tithes1831/drishane.htm
