Monday Oct 07, 1918 Taunton Daily Gazette page 3 Callaghan McCarthy one of the best known residents of the city died Sunday afternoon, a victim of double pneumonia. He had been ill just a week. Mr. McCarthy came to this city from Ireland bout 34 years ago and had since resided here following his trade of stone mason. A sad feature of Mr. McCarthy's passing is the fact that he leaves four sons all of whom are in Europe with the colors. He was married to Bridget Coady, who with four daughters and four sons survive him. Mr. McCarthy was a member of Division 1 A.O.H., of the Wolf Tone Club, the Sons of Irish Freedom and the mason's union. James T. Byrne, president of Division 2 A.O.H., expressed sorrow at the passing of Mr. McCarthy and said he was loyal friend and one whom the city could ill afford to lose. Mr. McCarthy's sons who are in France are James J., Callaghan Jr., and John E., and another son David R. is in Italy at the submarine base. He also leaves four daughters namely, Nellie E., Anna L., Mary D., and Catherine R. The sympathy of the community is extended to the family in bereavement. His funeral which was private was held this afternoon.
