About Callistus Hogue

CRESSON Dec. 10 The founder of Cresson's pioneer business house, a tinning shop, will celebrate his 58th birthday anniversary tomorrow at his home on Keystone Ave. He is C. John Hogue, native of Carrolltown and son of the late John and Catherind (Flick) Hogue, who learned the tinner's trade at the age of 15, and who established himself in business on First Street in 1894. As the first merchant to set up a full-time business here, Mr. Hogue continued in the enterprise until 1906, when his brother, Gilbert Hogue, also of this place, took over the establishment. In that year it's founder constructed a new hardware store on First Street, in which business he is still engaged. C. John Hogue was educated in the Bradley Junction schools and spent his boyhood days on his father's farm. He was united in marriage with Miss Anna Jane Williams of Carrolltown June 26, 1893. Mr. and Mrs. Hogue made their home in Carrolltown only a few months when they located in Cresson.
