Birth: Jun. 11, 1822 Death: Apr. 21, 1895
Calvin G. Boone, in 1837, was one of the first settlers in the area that became the town of Puckett in Rankin County. It was then called Clear Creek. Mr. Green is credited with building the first water mill, and in order to draw trade he blazed a road along the ridge which forms the dividing line between Camel's Creek and Purnes Creek to the place known as Shiloh. On Dec 27, 1854 he purchased 119 acres in Section 24, Township 3, Range 5 for $14.90. He received patent to an undescribed tract in Rankin County in 1859. He was a farmer and a soldier in the Confederate States Army during the Civil War. On Aug 31, 1863, when he was 40 years old, he enlisted as a Private in Company F, 4th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry at Brandon. He furnished his own horse and equipment. On Aug 31,1864, his name appears on the muster roll of Forrest Hospital in Lauderdale, Miss. It does not state whether he had been wounded or was ill. On May 12, 1865 his name appears on a roll call recorded in Gainesville, Alabama for prisoners of war. His unit had surrendered at Citronelle, Alabama on May 4, and he was paroled on May 12 to return home to Mississippi. He was called "Captain", although his war record states that he was a Private in the C. S. A.
