About Calvin George Hall
Calvin was born in Pennsylvania in the early spring of 1850 to parents Joseph P. Hall (from West Virginia) and Maria Colvin (from “East” Virginia). He was the 4th of 8 children born into this family. His father, was a teacher in the public schools in early life, subsequently a local minister and afterward a farmer. In both the 1860 and 1870 censuses, the family resided in Rostraver, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania. In 1872, he married Mary Jane “Jennie” Lewellen, presumably in Washington County, Pennsylvania. Her parents were James O. Lewellen and Martha Eicher. In August of 1873, in California, Washington County, Pennsylvania, his first child, Edgar Sanford Hall, was born. Family stories indicate that Edgar was very small at birth, small enough to fit into a “shoe box” and that Jennie died as a result of childbirth. Calvin’s father passed away also 3 years later. In 1880, Calvin and his son are in the household of his mother, Maria, in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In the summer of 1881, at the age of 31, Calvin was married to Dora Robinson (an 18 year old from Wisconsin), in Cook County, Illinois. They had 2 children, Pearlie May (1882-1885) and Ora Franklin Hall (1887-1969). In the 1900 census, Calvin and family were residing in Creighton Town, Knox County, Nebraska and by 1910 they had relocated to Wenatchee, Chelan County, Washington. Calvin was President of The Wenatchee Undertaking Company and was a mortician by trade. He died in Grant County, Washington, at the age of 71, in August 1921.
