From notes of Jack Thompson: Built a large home still standing in Waterloo, SC. 11 of his 12 sons served in the Confederacy.
GEORGE F. ANDERSON
In 1820 George F. Anderson, 1797-1881, married Amelia (Milly) Smith, daughter of William Smith* of Stony Point. Their home was on the western edge of the village of Waterloo in Laurens District. George and Milly Smith Anderson had 16 children. Eleven of their 12 sons served in the Confederate army, a record believed matched by only one other family in the South. One son was killed in the war. All the other children married and had families, many of them with descendants in Greenwood County. Their records are now in the book, "Waterloo-A History of the Anderson Family," compiled by Mildred W. Goodlett and published in 1961.
