John Field, (CSA) was born on March 31, 1799, in Culpeper, Culpeper, Virginia, United States. His parents were Henry Field, of Culpeper County and Frances Field (Hill).
John married Alice Kathryn Field (O'Bannon) on April 29, 1823, in Shelby, Kentucky, USA, Shelby County, KY, United States. Together they had the following children:
After the death of his first wife, he married his wife's cousin.
John married Mary Elizabeth Field on April 24, 1827, in Shelby, Kentucky, USA. Together they had the following children:

Captain John Field moved to Kentucky in 1821 and was living in Warsaw, KY prior to the Mexican War. He served two terms in the Kentucky Legislature, the first term in Henry County, Gallatin, and Carroll Counties the latter. In 1842 while serving a man named Mr. Morrow, who was a counterfeiter burned Captain Field’s home in retribution.
Capt. John Field was head of a notable family from Kentucky, born in Culpeper County, VA He arrived in Mission Valley Victoria, Texas in 1852, bringing other family members. He brought his wife and eight children with him Kentucky. It was not long after the arrival of the Field family that John A. Emison, in 1853, married the eldest daughter, Miss Frances "Fannie" Emison (Field) Capt. John Field built a lovely home for his large family and was a successful Rancher along with his son’s.
He was editor of a paper called the Warsaw Herald and was the first editor in the United States to hoist the flag for the annexation of Texas. Capt. The field was a surveyor for the city of Victoria in 1854 and was elected Sheriff in 1857. His wife died in Mission Valley, Victoria, Texas Aug 16, 1857, his children lived with him until his death on May 31, 1873. His children took over his Ranch, which was adjoining his son-in-law's Col. John Ash Emison property and daughter, Francis Emison Field.
Military
Captain Field commanded a company of Kentucky volunteers under Zachary Taylor at Buena Vista in the Mexican American War. He enlisted in Marshall’s regiment Field’s Shanshorn’s and Bear’s Companies were ordered by General Taylor on the mountains, brought on the Battle of Buena Vista. Captain John Field’s horse was shot out from under him in that battle, he was thirteen years old, his father sent him with a worker from the plantation to Alexandria to exchange two loads of wheat for salt, but he and the man were pressed into service until the war was over. Then when the Civil War broke out in his advanced age, he buckled on his armor and fought to protect Texas, serving in the Home Guards until the close of the Civil War.
