About Capt. Rudolph Stotler, Sr.

Rudolph Stotler was a veteran of the American Revolution. The Pennsylvania Archives Fifth Series volume VII have many references to him as a Captain from Lancaster County in 1780 to 1782.

He was born about 1750 probably in Pennsylvania and died May 5, 1825 in Allegheny County Pennsylvania. He appears on the tax list in Earl Township, Lancaster County in 1771 and in 1779 he is listed in Lampeter Township, Lancaster County. He was in Franklin County in the 1790 census, and in Allegheny County in 1800.

He was married twice, first to Barbara Scroogs and second to Frances (Fanny) Bush. The Petition for Partition of his estate says he had 16 children but only names 15.

Rudolph's pension records list Jacob Stotler as his brother. Jacob died in Franklin County in 1790 and his widow moved to Allegany County with her seven children about the same time as Rudolph moved there.

Jacob's brother Samuel Statler is listed in Jacob's estate records. This Samuel died in 1804 age 45 living six sons many who settled in Bedford and Somerset Counties.
