Biography
Thomas Cobb was born about 1705, probably in Taunton. He is the son of Morgan Cobb and Susannah Willis.[1]
Lydia (Leonard) Cobb (1710 - 1762) married Captain Thomas Cobb about 1737. Emery tells us[2] :"Capt. James Leonard continued the iron works successfully, admitting, in 1737, Capt. Thomas Cobb as part owner (who married Capt. James's daughter) a few years prior to his removal to Attleboro."
Captain Thomas Cobb and Mrs. Sarah Wild, both of Taunton, Bristol, Massachusetts, married April, 1765 in Taunton.[3]
Thomas Cobb was an important figure in Taunton Massachusetts, during the French and Indian wars Thomas was Captain of the Fourth Foot Company of Taunton Massachusetts from 1744 to 1759[4] This unit saw action in 1754 and 1760[5] After the war (1760) Thomas lived a short time in neighboring Attleborough purchasing land and mills from Samuel Danforth jr. In 1762 he returned to Taunton and built an iron rolling and slitting mill on the Attleborough property as well as running and iron works in Taunton known later as "Cobb's Iron Works".[6]
