A Patriot of the American Revolution for VIRGINIA with the rank of CAPTAIN. DAR Ancestor #: A074920

Captain Wm McClannahan was a Baptist Clergyman and at first preached to his men regularly. Culpepper County, where he lived during the war years had 8 companies of 84 men each in the Revolution as patriots, all of which Capt. McClannahan helped to raise. His recruits were principally from his own denomination and in conformity with the legislation who invited the members of particular societies, companies under officers of their own faith.
