About Captain Benjamin J. Monroe (CSA)

Enlisted as a Captain on 24 August 1861. Commission in Company E, 4th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 21 Sep 1861. Died on 5 Oct 1862 at Marshall County, MS. as a result of a leg wound suffered at the Battle of Shiloh.

His granduncle was President James Monroe.

His brother, Major Thomas B. Monroe (CSA), was also mortally wounded at the Battle of Shiloh.

The remains of Maj. Thomas B. Monroe and Capt. Benjamin J. Monroe, were eventually reinterred side-by-side in the family plot in the Frankfort, Kentucky cemetery.
