Jacob was a “householder” and signed the Oath of Allegiance and fidelity of 1677, the petition of 1680, took the freeman’s oath 18 April 1690 [3] and the Bradbury petition of 1692.He was a member of the military company of Sandwich, Massachusetts. On 14 August 1689 the Salisbury (Massachusetts) Quarterly Court decided "It is ordered by ye said militia that for ye more safty of ye town there shall be certain scouts sent forth consisting of none soldiers in a scout under ye commands of ye persons here under named viz: Leift. Henry True, Leift John Stevens, Cornnet Hubbard, Ensign Brown: Corporal Jacob Morrill; Sargent Bei Stevens"; Sergeants Joseph True, Page, Joseph Eaton, John Allin, William Allin and Joseph Fletcher," who are successively to range about ye out skirts of ye town; deyly until farther order be taken; the soldiers appointed to each commander ar inserted under ye hands of ye ar inserted under ye hand of sd militia." [4] Jacob and Abraham Morrill, Onesiphorus Page, Joseph True, Joseph Eaton, and the tree Allin brothers, Jerimie, John and William Jr. all signed the Oath of Allegiance and Fidelity to the King of England at Eamsberry December 1677- May 1678[5] A Jacob Morrill’s garrison was mentioned in 1691 and he was a solider at “Wells” 1696. He was a Quaker by faith by 1701 and gave the local chapter their burial ground. He represented his town in the general court of 1689, 1692-1693 and 1696-1697. Jacob held the following in town: Selectman: 26 December 1683 13 February 1690, 7 May 1692-1693, 18 May 1694-1695, “Prudential Men”: 8 January 1685, 4 January 1686, 11 June 1689 [6] A Susanna Morrill was admitted a member of the Second Salisbury Church 1718-1719, she transferred from the First Salisbury Church, admitted 22 February 1700 [7] His will was made 20 March 1718, he died 23 April 1718 in Salisbury, Massachusetts and his will was read 26 May 1718. Susanna Morrill died 15 February 1726-1727. Her son Israel administered her estate 15 March 1728[8]

Jacob Morrill was born on 24 Aug 1648 in Salisbury, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony to Abraham (Morill) Morrill and Sarah (Clement) Mudgett. He is the brother of John Morrell [half], Isaac Morrill, Sarah Morrill, Abraham Morrill, Moses Morrill, Aaron Morrill, Richard Morrill, Lydia Morrill, Hepsibah (Morrill) Dibbs, Mary (Mudget) Quimby [half] and Temperance Mudgett [half]. He married Susannah (Whittier) Morrill on 15 Jul 1674 in Salisbury, Essex County, Massachusetts Bay Colony [uncertain]. He is father of Ezekiel Morrill and Susanna (Morrill) Dix. 'Jacob Morrell

was a member of the Society of Friends (Quakers).

Quakers were not well liked by Puritans. In 1657, a stringent

law was passed in Salisbury against harboring "any of the cursed sect of Quakers."

Violators were subject to a fine of 40 schillings. 

Harboring a Quaker in your house from the rain for few a minutes was illegal.

Jacob was presumably an outcast from the ordinarily Puritan environment of Salisbury,

which must be why so few vital records for this family can be found.
