Captain James Merrick, II

Biography James was the son of James Merrick and Sarah Hitchcock. Capt James Merrick purchased a part of a 100-acre farm in Monson MA in 1734 and the remainder in 1736. Capt Merrick and his sons James Aaron and Gideon are said to have served in the French and Indian wars Capt James was a grandson of Thomas Merrick one of the first Settlers of Springfield He was born January 1, 1698, and died in 1790 at the age of 92 years . Capt Merrick was one of the first selectmen of Monson and continued in office five years It is probable that the house in which CM Foley now resides was Capt James Merrick nearly a century and a half ago [1]
