Origins
Major James Goodwin was a plantation owner and grew mostly tobacco and corn. He married Rachel Porter and they had seven children: Robert, John, Peter, Matthew, Martin, Susannah, and Elizabeth.
Their homestead was an imposing two-story structure facing Goodwin Island on the Thorofare in what is known as Dandy. The house was torn down shortly after 1900. It was reported to be located where "Powell Beatty" once lived
Biography
John Goodwin (James2, Peter1, RobertA, HenryB, JohnC, WilliamD) was born in England, the son of James Goodwin and Rachel Porter.[1] He died 1701 in York Co, VA. He married Elizabeth Moore, daughter of Augustine Moore. She died Bet. 1718 - 1719.[2]
