About Captivity Bartlett
Some accounts list her birth as Canada. They also tell of her mother being kidnapped by Indians and taken to Canada approximately 4 months after her marriage to Captivity's father. Is her name Captivity because she was born while hostage?
YES - confirmed here Hannah and 2 of her children were captured by Asphelon's Indian party in Oct. of 1677, and taken to Canada. While a prisoner, Hannah became the mother of a baby girl on 22 Jan. 1678, whome she named Captivity Jennings. Her second husband, Stephen was one of the heroes who went to Canada and effected a ransom of the captives. A few years later on 22 July 1710, Stephen was killed by Indians at Brookfield.
